POLICE are appealing for witnesses after men with a sledgehammer tried to rob a Post Office.
Two men turned up at Mosley Common Post Office in Leigh in a silver Mondeo, which had false number plates, beginning with MA.
One man, carrying the sledgehammer, began hitting the internal door, which was kept shut by the postmaster leaning against it.
The robbers gave up and took a small amount of cash from the till.
A third man was waiting in the get-away car which turned left into Thornton Road, left into Gilda Road, back over Mosley Common Road and on to Bridgewater Road.
It was last seen heading towards the Red Lion pub after the incident, which happened at 10.45am on Friday. The Mondeo was later found abandoned in Worsley.
