A NEWLYWED from Bolton hanged himself in St Petersberg after a stormy week-long marriage to a Russian hairdresser.
Andrew O'Hara, aged 33, was found dead just five days after their wedding in April last year.
Bolton Coroner's Court heard Andrew had met the 25-year-old on the Internet nearly a year before and had moved in with her on Christmas Day. But he was found hanging from an iron bar in a kitchen passageway after they had a massive post-wedding day row.
The court heard that Andrew, who worked as a driver, had suffered from depression as a teenager but had overcome this when he started work.
He met Jana on the Internet and began sending her regular e-mails. He went to live with her in St Petersberg after setting up a second meeting through an interpreter. Russian police carried out an investigation into his death and found that the married couple had had a huge row shortly before Andrew died.
Jana said in a statement that he had torn up their marriage certificate after "becoming jealous" when she spoke to another men on the phone. She moved out of the flat and one of her relatives found Andrew dead a few days later.
Dr John Rutherford, a Home Office forensic pathologist, carried out a post-mortem examination and found unexplained bruises on his body.
"He had marks of some sort of domestic violence on him but they were not sufficient enough to kill him," he said.
"I am satisfied that he died from hanging and that no other person was involved."
Bolton Coroner Jennifer Leeming recorded a verdict of suicide.
She said: "I am satisfied from the evidence that Andrew and his wife had a stormy relationship.
"I'm satisfied however that his death was the unaided result of his own actions. He took his own life in despair."
