Bolton suffer Trophy blow
BOLTON Under 14s are out of the North West Woodward Trophy after going down 2-1 to Sefton in their quarter final clash on Merseyside.
Bolton were unfortunate not to be given a penalty when Adam Starkey (Sharples) was brought down whilst rounding the home keeper.
Sefton rode their luck and they went in front just before the break but Bolton again bounced back almost equalising when Paul Oldham (Canon Slade) had a fine shot well saved.
Sefton went further in front mid way through the second half.
Bolton replied with Ashley Young (Sharples) heading home a Kane Bentley (Harper Green) free kick but Sefton held out.
Bolton Under 15s were held to a 2-2 draw by Blackpool in their Northern Merit League match at Sharples School with two goals, one a penalty, from Billy McGuinness (Turton).
after Alex Mort (Smithills) had been brought down inside the box.
Blackpool again equalised ten minutes later but Bolton almost snatched victory five minutes from time when a John Fairhurst (Westhoughton) header was cleared off the line.
Bury Under 15s suffered a cup knockout when they went down 3-2 to Wigan in their Greater Manchester Schools' County Cup semi final clash at the Derby School.
The game was a closely contested affair in the opening exchanges but it was Wigan who struck first after after 23 minutes.
Bury equalised with a Mark Priestley 25 yard shot just before the break and Peter Hickford headed them in front two minutes after the restart.
But the local lads suffered a series of disappointments in the later stages of the game.
The visitors equalised on the hour mark and Bury midfielder Damian Quigley had to come off with a suspected broken ankle before Wigan clinched victory from the penalty spot 15 minutes from time.
Meanwhile, Greater Manchester Under 16s failed to make it into the semi finals of the national inter county Premier League Trophy when they went down 3-0 on penalties following their 1-1 extra time draw against Shropshire at Lilleshall in their quarter final tie.
