PLAY it again... the council is set to improve another children's play area in Chorley.

The Foxcote play area has been designed with the help of children who, after choosing the items that could appear there, even got to view the finished scheme on a 3D computer programme.

Intended for youngsters aged up to 12, the play area will include swings, a see-saw and a multi-play unit which comprises a climbing tower, ladder, slide, rope wall and fireman's pole. Litterbins and seating will complete the project.

Councillor Mary Wilson, Chorley Borough Council's executive member for community services, said: "Our leisure services staff have visited schoolchildren with the police community liaison officer to plan this play area to meet the youngsters' needs."

She added: "This newly-refurbished area further demonstrates our commitment to improving the borough's facilities.

"In fact, over the past 12 months we have spent in excess of £60,000 to improve our sites.

"That has included the toddlers' play area at Grafton Street in Adlington being refurbished, while a youth zone complete with five a side pitch and teen shelter, was installed at the Jubilee Recreation Ground also in Adlington.

"Our consultants have shown that high quality play provision is high on the public's agenda and we intend to carry on with this level of investment in the future."

Lorraine Cross, the council's leisure services manager, said: "It is an ongoing programme. We have developed four, and in two weeks are moving on to another, then through summer we will be doing at least another two sites.

"There are 40 sites and there's some funding available from government for play areas but this tends to be more in the run down areas. This is all council's money."
