IT is 10 years this week since Princess Diana visited the town to officially open Bolton Hospice.
Crowds of 5,000 waited hours to glimpse her and the amount of empathy in the air was palpable.
She was charming, looked wonderful in a pink coat and matching skirt, and made the occasion memorable for everyone there.
When she died, the people who had met her that day felt genuine grief. I was working with Bolton Evening News colleagues that day to put out a special edition and spoke to several local people -- including the then Mayor, the late, much-missed Cllr Peter Birch -- who were in tears.
Revelations and scandals have followed her death, but I am convinced that if you spoke now to any of those thousands who were at Bolton Hospice on that day, they would only recall her with warmth and affection.
