EIGHT British and four American troops have been killed in a helicopter crash as the ground invasion of Iraq continued.
A US CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter crashed in Kuwait several miles south of the Iraqi border, apparently in an accident, said US defence officials.
The deaths are the first confirmed casualties among US and UK troops since the war on Iraq began on Thursday.
The cause of the crash is being investigated but it is thought to have been an accident.
The US Marines use the Sea Knight, a helicopter with two large rotors like a Chinook, to fly troops from ships at sea or base camps to forward positions.
