A MAN thought to be the first person in the UK to contract a mystery pneumonia bug looks set to make a full recovery.
Nigel Glassey, 64, of Hale Barns, Cheshire, was struck down with suspected Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) after a holiday in Hong Kong.
He was admitted to the specialist infectious diseases unit at North Manchester General Hospital.
Mr Glassey's wife Gwynneth, has paid tribute to the treatment her husband has received.
She said: "We are highly indebted to an absolutely brilliant and professional team at the hospital."
Mrs Glassey added that she had been prepared for "any possibilities" but fortunately it looked like her husband was making a full recovery.
A hospital spokeswoman said Mr Glassey, a solicitor, remains in a stable condition.
He is being treated with antibiotics and oxygen.
