IF the United Kingdom is fighting an illegal war, as the majority of independent international lawyers have argued (the Attorney General is on the Government payroll and his view is consequently not objective), then it is difficult to see the logic of your position (March 17) that British troops should be supported.
Fighting an unjust and illegal war renders at least senior members of the armed forces subject to prosecution. This was a principle established at Nuremburg, and recently the International Criminal Court was inaugurated with UK backing as a forum where such trials could take place.
The appropriate advice to all members of the armed forces is, therefore, that they should refuse to obey orders.
