Wanderers' most prolific goalscorer until Nat Lofthouse came along, Joe Smith's 1920-21 haul of 38 goals still stands today as a club record.
The England inside forward, he formed a formidable left-wing partnership with Ted Vizard that was one of the keys to the club's success in the 20s. He had the distinction of captaining Wanderers when they won the first FA Cup Final staged at Wembley in 1923 and was skipper again three years later when they scored the second of their three triumphs at the Empire Stadium. He was manager of Blackpool when they beat Wanderers in the 1953 final.
