BOLTON Under 15s made progress in the Northern Merit League when they produced a 2-1 derby victory over local rivals Blackburn at Plessington on Saturday.
The local youngsters made a fine start and opened the scoring after just two minutes when striker Billy McGuinness (Turton) chased a long punt from goalkeeper Scott Moore (Westhoughton) and beat the opposition keeper to fire home.
Bolton continued to dominate the game in the first half but the eager Blackburn defenders limited Bolton to shots from outside the box.
Blackburn fared better after the restart and forced Bolton back before equalising mid way through the half.
That stung Bolton into action but Mount St. Joseph's duo Joe Whittaker and Ben Rooney found the home keeper in top form.
Bolton pegged Blackburn back in their own half and they grabbed victory ten minutes from time when McGuinness fired home at the far post from a Gary Hanks (Westhoughton) cross.
Meanwhile, Bolton have been drawn at home to Warrington in the quarter final of the North West Alder Cup.
Bury have already made it into the semi finals of that competition after beating St Helens 5-1 in their quarter final tie.
Meanwhile, Greater Manchester Under 19s crashed out of the Premier League Trophy when they went down 3-1 to Shropshire in their quarter final clash at Lilleshall.
England international Dale Johnson (Glossopdale High School) scored the Greater Manchester goal.
