A BURGLAR was found by police in a house lying bleeding on a bedroom floor.
Simon Gray, aged 22, had cut his wrist breaking in and admitted burgling the house in Danefold Close, Hindley.
Gray later told a probation officer he had been looking for cash so he could pay off an old drug debt.
He was given a last chance by a judge at Bolton Crown Court when he was sentenced to a 12-month drug treatment and testing order.
Gray, of Smithwood Avenue, Hindley, was told by Recorder Philip Butler he had been thinking of jailing him for at least two years.
Gray, of Smithwood Avenue, Hindley, admitted burgling the house in Danefold Close.
Prosecutor Bunty Batra said that neighbours alerted police to the sounds of a break-in and officers arrived within minutes at the house.
They found the back door had been forced open and property, including a video recorder, had been placed on a settee.
When police officers entered the front bedroom, they found Gray sprawled on the floor surrounded by broken glass from a cabinet.
Recorder Philip Butler said that many might think he was being lenient but he thought it was worth giving Gray one last chance so that others wouldn't be burgled in the future.
