THE timing for the 75th Oscars ceremony was, admittedly, bad.

Few Americans must feel like celebrating anything currently, and it was inevitable that a rather more sombre tone would be set.

Unfortunately, all those black dresses along with the black tuxedos and white shirts just looked depressing.

There were one or two bright frocks, but I thought that Jennifer Lopez set the tone best in this modest white number. Glitzy but restrained certainly got my Oscar for Best Dress in a Supporting Role.
