DISCIPLINARY action has been taken against two bus drivers after a group of teenagers were left stranded in Bolton town centre.
Angry parents have branded the drivers "irresponsible" after their children were left stranded.
Teenagers Louise Mersh, her friend Rebecca Fisher, both aged 13, twins Phillip and David Vize, aged 14, and Stuart Redmond, aged 14, were trying to return home from an evening out at Laser Quest on Bradshawgate.
They waited for the 36 bus at a stop on Trinity Street at about 9.30pm, but a bus driver went past, ignoring them.
They later saw the 501 approaching another stop on Nelson Street and they ran in an attempt to catch it.
Phillip said he tried to get on the bus, but he claims the driver shut the door on his foot while he was pleading with him to wait for the others who were just seconds away.
He was forced to get off. The friends decided to make the 45-minute journey back to New Bury in Farnworth on foot.
Louise's mum, Kathy Platt, said: "They were all very upset. We did not have a clue where they were. I would like to ask the drivers what they would have done if it was their children waiting? It was late and they could have easily walked into a dangerous situation." A spokesman for the First Manchester Bus Company said: "An investigation has taken place, the drivers have been traced and disciplinary action has been taken. The service manager will also talk to the parents soon."
The details of the disciplinary action taken by the bus company have not been revealed.
