TEMPEST survived a sending off and a penalty to overcome third-placed Poulton Town 2-0 in the West Lancashire League.
Tempest dominated from the start but had goalkeeper Nick Baxter to thank after a superb penalty save ensured they remained on level terms at the break.
United made their superiority tell in the second half as Paul Hinks opened the scoring before a clever flick from Aaron Reece sealed the points.
Despite being reduced to ten men for the last 15 minutes, Tempest held on to the lead as Ian Marshall turned in a commanding display in defence.
