A GUARD of honour and a turntable ladder will be at the funeral service of a firefighter who died in hospital after fighting a grass fire.
The ceremonial service for father-of-two Graham Hughes will be held at Bolton North fire station, in Crompton Way, on Tuesday. The cortege will then leave for Overdale Crematorium.
Mr Hughes, aged 53, collapsed after tackling a grass fire at Seven Acres Country Park, in Breightmet. He complained of feeling unwell, then fell to the ground as he walked away from the fire scene in Thicketford Brow.
His colleagues and paramedics gave him cardiac massage and he started breathing again. He was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital within minutes of the incident last Friday but died in the intensive care unit three days later.
The family have requested no flowers, and want any donations to be made to the fire service benevolent fund through Howarth's funeral directors, in Blackburn Road, Bolton.
