WHEN these pictures first appeared in 1952, the caption read: "Bolton started today a fortnight's campaign to collect scrap to keep the blast furnaces of the country going.
"The first response shows that the public is ready to help. Put out near dustbins today were scores of bicycle frames and iron bedsteads, and, in addition, wringing machines and gas rings.
"By lunch-time, a sizeable pile was being sorted at the Back-o'th'-Bank depot."
