A LEGAL assistant who tried to con a court with a document he faked on his computer has been sent to jail.
Yaseen Yusuf tried to avoid three penalty points on his licence -- but ended up getting a three-month prison sentence instead.
Yusuf had been stopped for driving on a motorway hard shoulder and was told he would be getting a fixed penalty ticket which would mean three points being put on his licence.
But, in an effort to avoid the penalty points, Yusuf faked a repair bill on his computer for a fictitious company to explain why he had been on the hard shoulder.
His solicitors passed on the fake document to the Crown Prosecution Service who became suspicious and passed it to the police.
Yusuf, aged 25, of Mere Walk, Halliwell, appeared at Bolton Crown Court for sentence.
He admitted trying to pervert the course of justice following an incident on the M60 in April last year.
Richard Heap, prosecuting, said Yusuf had been stopped driving on the hard shoulder. He was told a fixed penalty notice would be issued which would add three points to his driving licence.
But, in a vain bid to avoid the points being added to his licence, Yusuf faked the repair bill.
The case had to be adjourned several times while police tried to track down the non-existent company.
Yusuf was arrested on October 25, when he admitted his role in the deception. He said he was worried the three points would lose him his job.
He had a previous conviction for deception and subsequently breached the community order sentence he received.
Judge Elliot Knopf said Yusuf had deliberately tried to escape the consequences of his actions by manufacturing the document.
He jailed Yusuf for three months and ordered that three penalty points be added to his licence.
