PUPILS from Smithills School -- Sara's old school -- spent 20 minutes quizzing the DJ on a range of topics after watching her present her Breakfast Show.

Here is a selection of their questions -- and Sara's answers:

How did you become a DJ?

I've been really, really lucky. I started modelling in Manchester years ago and then did some spells on television. When Zoe Ball left the Breakfast Show, I was asked to step into her shoes. I was nervous.

What was your favourite lesson at school?

English. I hated maths.

Where did you go Thursday night?

We didn't arrive in Bolton until 8.30pm because we got a little bit lost, so we stayed in the hotel and went to bed.

Where did you use to hang out in Bolton?

The off-licence and the chippies. When I was really young, I just used to play out in Little Lever but we moved later to Boothstown where I hung around the precinct, snogging boys in the graveyard. I loved Hawthornes which I think is called Indigo now. It had really sticky carpets. I liked the Bob Smithy pub, too.

Do you have any secrets about a celebrity?

Zoe Ball has a fake tan. She also has a pole dancing pole in her house which is quite dangerous especially after a few drinks. I've injured myself a few times.

Do you still get nervous?

At first I was nervous. My lips quivered like Elvis. But it does get easier. Actually, I was nervous doing the show in Bolton and I was shaking because I'd been taken out of my usual environment. I felt much better when the pupils from Smithills came, though, because I could actually see some faces. Before then it was just my mum having a butty and a cleaner doing some sweeping.

What do you think of Gareth Gates?

He's done really well for himself. I did interview him once, but I think I scared him.

What do you think about the war?

The thing is, working for the BBC means I have to be impartial so I can't give my opinion on air. That's because my wages are paid for by the licence fee which in turn is paid for by the public. But I am against the war. I didn't go on the march in London but I did go to an anti-war concert.

Which celebrity did you most enjoy interviewing?

It would have to be Madonna. I was scared beforehand because she was really horrible to Zoe but then I found out that was because the DJ who was working with Zoe had kept her waiting for 40 minutes and then bought her some £2 flowers from a garage. I got on really well with Madonna. She was very funny and relaxed. I also loved Eminem. He's really sexy in the flesh. If you could have a freak fling with somebody, he would be the one. The thing about a lot of celebs is you're never sure if they are not just being showbiz nice.

Who would you most like to interview?

Snoop Dog definitely. Then I can introduce him to my dog who is also called Snoop and say 'I named him after you.'

What's your favourite song?

I hate these questions. I love some Beatles tracks but the song I walked down the aisle to, Living Thing by ELO, is beautiful.

If you had to go to a desert island, what three things would you take?

Am I allowed to take Eminem? Erm, I'd give up cigarettes before I go so I'd leave them behind. I'd probably take my dog and an MP3 player, something I really want to buy.
