KEVIN Nolan's hopes of replacing the injured Michael Carrick in the England under-21 side have been dealt a blow by Jermaine Jenas' call up.
Nolan was an unused sub in the defeat by Portugal on Friday, but looked to have a chance of making the team to face Turkey on Tuesday night at St James' Park when Carrick pulled out with a groin strain.
However, Newcastle favourite Jenas has been drafted in from the senior squad by coach David Platt and is likely to fill the spare midfield role.
Nolan has one cap for the under-21s side after making his debut against Italy last month.
