SARA Cox spoke of her disgust at hearing that her childhood horse, Gus, was burned in an horrific attack -- and she has paid him a special visit.

Petrol was poured over the horse's back which was then set alight while he was in stables in Cedar Avenue, Little Lever, earlier this month.

Although he is recovering well, the 26-year-old horse still bears horrific scars.

After visiting the horse, Sara said Gus was "my little pony".

She added: "I can't believe anyone could have done something like that. I was on holiday in Brazil when I found out and was horrified. There's some good people looking after him and I just hope he makes a full recovery. He's such a great horse."

Sara used to ride Gus as a child and his owner, Geoffrey Williamshas thanked Sara for showing a strong interest in the horse. Hundreds of pounds have been donated by Bolton Evening News readers to help pay for the vet fees.
