BUSINESSES and schools are celebrating one year of the Adopt a School Initiative this week.
The initiative, launched by Bolton and Bury Education Business Partnership, has helped set up several successful partnerships springing up between schools and businesses in the two towns.
Among the successful partnerships, George Tomlinson High School, in Bolton, has linked up with Natwest, while St James' High in Daisy Hill has joined forces with McDonalds.
Bolton and Bury EBP acts as the relationship broker, matching the needs of the school with the employee's skills and interests.
BBC North West Tonight education reporter Dave Guest hosted a conference, attended by around 250 delegates, at the Last Drop Village Hotel's Pennine Suite to mark the scheme's first anniversary.
During the event the UK Aerospace Challenge 2003 trophy (sponsored by the Bolton Evening News Group) will be presented to the school team which designed the best rocket in a recent rocket competition.
The winners will win the opportunity to travel to Russia in October to represent the UK in the Russian Space Olympics.
