WITH regard to the letter "Bromley Cross in a sad state", printed on Friday, March 28. Bromley Cross is not the only area to resemble the council refuse tip.
I live in Halliwell and, over the past couple of years, have seen the roads and streets deteriorate beyond belief.
Bertha and Bride Street in Halliwell have items of furniture and rubbish strewn along their back streets. The refuse department, I am told, has been informed of the items needed to be picked up. But, the department has taken such a long time to remove them that the children have just vandalised the items, resulting in the rubbish overflowing on to the adjacent estate of Torrington Avenue.
I, as a resident of Torrington Avenue, rang the council regarding a chair that had made its way on to our estate. I requested a pick up of the item as it was causing an obstruction on both the pavement and the road (depending on where the children decided to leave it when they had finished playing with it). It took several phone calls and four weeks before someone came to remove the chair.
As for litter, where have all the street cleaners gone? We pay outlandish council taxes, but where does the money go? It certainly doesn't go on keeping the streets of Bolton clean.
