WIGAN Council has welcomed proposals for the £80m scheme to improve the Grand Arcade shopping centre.
Developers Modus have put forward "an advanced and improved" scheme, which was judged more contemporary-looking.
The main arcade will now be covered with a glazed canopy with changes to some of the planned car parks. Work is due to start in August next year.
