YOUNG, old, men and women -- they were all there to witness Bolton comedian Peter Kay's triumphant homecoming on Monday night.

The packed audience may well have been diverse, but they were unanimous in their verdict -- "better than ever!"

Dennis Ramsden, aged 73, from Breightmet: "It was very, very funny. I am a fan of Peter Kay -- this has been very good. He does appeal to all ages and does not have to rely on being vulgar. Yes, he is as good as I thought he would be --and even better."

Amanda Watson, aged 30, from Tonge Moor: "He is very funny. I watch all his programmes and am very much a fan. But this show has been better than ever. I have listened to CDs of his show, but tonight he has really excelled."

Chris Wareing, aged 23, from Wigan: "He is brilliant -- up there with the best of them. I am a big, big fan. This is the first time I have seen him perform live -- and yes it has been better than I even imagined."

Dave Regan, aged 50, from Radcliffe: "I have never seen him perform live before. He really does appeal across the board and is very funny. I like his programmes, and expected him to be good -- but he is better than that!"
