THE Green Party will mount a major challenge in May's local elections in the North-west, the party is claiming.
Close of nominations indicate they will field some 130 candidates, while the far right British National Party (BNP) fields over 30 candidates.
Around 40 Socialist Alliance Against the War candidates will directly oppose Labour hopes for a patriotic war vote.
The Conservatives hope to oust Labour on councils like Hyndburn, and Trafford while the Liberal Democrats have their sights on Oldham.
