BURGLARY victims are being sent questionnaires as part of a police campaign to beat Crime.
The scheme is part of Operation Magpie, which aims to reduce domestic burglary across Bolton and Greater Manchester.
All victims of burglaries in February are being sent the survey, believed to be the first of its kind in the country.
The 3,200 questionnaires will be accompanied by a letter from Chief Constable Michael Todd.
The aim is to provide police with a better knowledge and understanding of the burglary problems in an area to help prevent further crimes.
The survey will ask various questions, including the type and location of a person's home, whether a burglar alarm is installed, the material the front and back doors are made of, and the type of locks fitted.
Chief Insp David Flitcroft, of GMP's Crime Reduction Section, said: "The Force is committed to reducing domestic burglary, which is why we are running Operation Magpie.
"To deploy our resources effectively and distribute appropriate advice to householders, we need to fully understand why this crime occurs against certain people.
"Overall, we hope the results will enable us to prevent people becoming victims of this cowardly and traumatic crime."
Since January, Operation Magpie has involved a number of high-profile police initiatives in hotspot areas.
