READING your article in Thursday, March 27, edition about under age drinkers, I get so mad when everyone assumes it is always the off-licence that is to blame for selling alcohol to those under age.
I speak from experience as I run an off-licence.
The youngsters try so many ways to get alcohol that no matter how vigilant you are, they get it. They ask adults to get it for them, they use fake IDs, they lie about their age. Then, when they are caught, the off-licence gets fined and has their name put in the paper. Nothing is said about the kids who were caught, they just seem to get away with it.
Why aren't the children fined, and the stupid people who buy it for them, as this is a crime as well? But I suppose attacking the off-licence is the easier option, whether it is fair or not doesn't matter.
Not all off-licences break the law intentionally. I suggest these people who keep blaming off-licences work in one for a weekend and then say it's easy. Even some Members of Parliament say it is hard to tell a teenager's age. I think it should be law that anyone under 21 must carry an ID card to purchase age-restricted items. This would make everyone's lives easier.
