MOTORISTS using the M6 are being warned that the Thelwall Viaduct is to remain partially closed.
Traffic jams will continue as workmen get to work on replacing damaged and corroded roller bearings.
Initially, it was thought just one roller bearing needed repairing. But 136 bearings have been found faulty.
It means speed restrictions will continue to be in force.
Motorists travelling in both directions will continue using six narrow lanes on the southbound viaduct.
The northbound viaduct will stay closed, with the exception of a single lane allowing access to the exit at junction 21.
The viaduct carries the motorway over the Manchester Ship Canal and is one of the busiest sections of the motorway network in the North-west.
More than 180,000 vehicles use the route each day.
Highways Agency Project Manager David Grunwell said: "We realise that this decision will cause further disruption but the safety of motorists and the future integrity of the viaduct is of paramount importance."
