A CARJACKER who left a retired nurse "sick and shocked" after jumping into her car as he fled from a police pursuit, has been jailed for almost five years.
Drug addict Muddasser Ali, aged 21, of Park Road, Bolton forced open disabled Gillian Horridge's passenger side front door and ordered her to keep driving.
But the 62-year-old former auxiliary nurse took off her seatbelt and jumped from her Ford Puma in St Peter's Way, leaving Ali inside with the engine running. Ali, who has 22 previous convictions, had just assaulted a police officer who tried to arrest him after spotting him inside a VW Golf with a prostitute in The Haulgh.
He punched and kicked the constable in the face, legs and groin in Hilden Street then ran down an embankment to the busy A666, Bolton Crown Court was told.
Today, Ali was starting a four-year, nine-month sentence. He was jailed at Bolton Crown Court after pleading guilty to robbery, three assaults and dangerous driving. He was also disqualified from driving for two years.
His brother, 25-year-old Harron Ali, also of Park Road, was sentenced to complete a 100- hour community punishment order after admitting perverting the course of justice.
Ali had earlier tried to climb into two other cars waiting in a queue in St Peter's Way at noon on Tuesday, January 7, but the motorists sped off.
Lisa Judge, prosecuting, said he then opened Mrs Horridge's passenger door, climbed into the front seat and told her to "keep on driving".
Miss Judge added: "She was fearful for her own safety and alighted leaving the engine running.
"She was unhurt but has suffered a great deal and was left sick and shocked."
Mrs Horridge, who lives in Droylsden, had been for a dental appointment in Bolton when the incident happened.
Moments earlier, Ali had tried to escape the police by driving the VW Golf through The Haulgh at speeds reaching 50 mph -- and trying to reverse into a police car.
He was finally arrested in Bradford Street but assaulted the PC and escaped, the court heard.
Mrs Horridge's car was found abandoned a day later in Heaton.
The pair were arrested on Saturday, January 11, after being spotted in a red Fiesta in Gilnow Road, Bolton.
Miss Judge said Muddasser Ali then attacked two other police officers who went to arrest him -- before later attempting to escape from the police station.
Police later found Mrs Horridge's wallet in Ali's house, the court was told.
Micheal Lavery, defending, said "He has pleaded guilty knowing the serious charges that he faces. He is someone who has a great deal of remorse."
Det Insp Andy Aston, of Astley Bridge Police, said: "They were serious and nasty attacks on police officers and an extremely distressing experience for an innocent member of the public."
His Honour Judge Knopf told Ali that only a custodial sentence was appropriate. He added: "If you continue to commit offences you will face a life of ruin."
