SATURDAY: HAROLD Hassall is hoping to trace Johnny Wheeler and Eric Bell, two of his former teammates in the 1953 FA Cup Final against Blackpool. He wants the surviving members of the side, beaten in what became known as the Matthews final after the Seasiders' winger had inspired a winning fightback, to meet for a reunion to mark the game's 50th anniversary.
MONDAY
Wanderers hint they are ready to talk to Bernard Mendy about a contract for next year after the former Paris St Germain player admitted he felt he had a better chance of international recognition if he returned to play in his native France.
Wanderers Reserves followed up a 3-1 win over Middlesbrough two days earlier with a 1-1 draw with Manchester United reserves at Gigg Lane. Delroy Facey put the Whites in front before United equalised from the penalty spot.
TUESDAY
THE half year financial report shows that Wanderers debt had risen to nearly £40m. This, however, was mainly the result of the club taking out a short-term loan against TV payments due in August. Overall the club made a £1m operating loss during the six months period to December 31.
WEDNESDAY
WANDERERS legend Nat Lofthouse finally hangs up his boots in his day to day activities at the Reebok. Chairman Phil Gartside leads the tribute to the former player, coach and manager now aged 77, who will continue to be president of the club.
Phil Brown says Gudni Bergsson would "be crazy" to retire after impressive displays this season against the likes of top internationals Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler.
THURSDAY
SUPPORTERS Club members stage a farewell party for Bergsson ahead of his planned retirement but the skipper confirms his decision to retire at the end of this season.
FRIDAY
SAM Allardyce wants points from the next two games against Manchester City and Chelsea to try and ease the pressure before they face West Ham at the Reebok on April 19. The manager wants to avoid that match becoming a decider for one of the relegation places.
Assistant manager Phil Brown says the club is delighted that two individual stars like Youri Djorkaeff and Jay-Jay Okocha can blend to play the type of team game Wanderers need in the fight to beat the drop.
