A 17-YEAR-OLD girl raped at knifepoint in a country park was forced to hand over the jewellery she was wearing.

Detectives have issued photographs of the stolen chains, rings and earrings in a bid to catch the sex fiend before he strikes again.

The teenager from Farnworth was grabbed from behind as she walked her dog in Moses Gate Country Park last month by a man armed with a 14 in Gurkha knife.

He dragged her into undergrowth where he ordered her to remove her clothing and held the knife to her throat as he raped her.

Her 15-minute ordeal on Tuesday, February 25, only came to an end when she managed to escape and run naked through the River Croal.

Detectives have appealed directly to members of the public who may have seen the items of jewellery to come forward.

They believe the sex attacker may have kept the items as a sick souvenir, given them as a gift to someone or tried to sell them.

He stole a gold chain with a T-bar, a gold chain with a sovereign, a gold sovereign ring and a gold and sapphire diamond ring.

A pair of horseshoe-shaped gold and silver earrings, a pair of thick hooped gold earrings and a silver ring with a blue Topaz stone were also taken.

The rapist also forced the terrified teenager to remove a silver belly bar with a silver dolphin on it surrounded by eight blue crystals, some of which were missing.

Detectives have released an e-fit of the sex fiend and made a series of public appeal for information but he is still at large.

The Gurkha knife has a distinctive blade featuring a carved design, a brass hilt and a wooden handle with metal inserts.

Police are desperate to catch him before he strikes a second time and have again warned women to be on their guard.

Det Insp Andy Aston, who is leading the inquiry, said: "The victim is recovering at home and is undergoing counselling.

"She is still too frightened to leave her home alone.

"I would ask members of the public to look at the pictures and think 'have you been given this jewellery by your boyfriend, husband or son?'.

"It may be that someone has been given these items of jewellery as a present, possibly for Mother's Day, and not realised where they have come from.

"The items are worth more than £100 but they are worth more in sentimental value to the victim.

"This was a horrendous attack and we must catch this man before he strikes again.

"If you have any suspicions at all, contact us immediately.

"If you are wrong, we can eliminate people from the inquiry quite quickly.

"I would again advise women to be extra vigilant and be aware of their surroundings."
