ROB Gandy popped into Bolton to do some shopping on Saturday -- and ended up with a girlfriend.

The 23-year-old from Kearsley was approached in the town centre by a member of the Radio 1 team.

He was asked to appear in a "speed-dating" show and he agreed, attracting the attention of 24-year-old Joanne Fitzsimmons from Blackburn.

The pair were among six contestants -- three boys and three girls -- who had only a few minutes to get to know each other. They were then asked to rate each other in a series of categories.

The pair won £50 each to spend at the Trafford Centre as well as a hot date. It was supposed to be taking place on Saturday night but Joanne had a prior engagement.

Rob said: "It looks like I've been blown out before I've even gone out with her."

But Joanne reassured him: "We will set up a date. It's all quite exciting really."
