PEOPLE living with a long term illness like diabetes, multiple sclerosis or arthritis are being offered the opportunity to get a new perspective on their condition through Bolton's first NHS "Expert Patients Programme".

The scheme offers people the chance to take part in a series of six half-day sessions, addressing topics like problem solving, coping with pain, tiredness and emotions, diet and exercise, and communication skills.

A spokesman said: "Evidence from similar courses shows many participants end up needing to use health services less, and feeling more positive.

"The tutors are usually people who have been through the course themselves and want to share what they've learnt with others."

The first course takes place in central Bolton and starts in early May, with sessions each Tuesday. Further courses will follow.
