MEMBERS of a Bolton community theatre group are set to star in a "new" series of plays -- which date back more than 600 years.

The newly-unearthed works are a series of renaissance farces which have recently been translated and adapted by US film director Joseph Strick.

And the rights to perform them have been handed over exclusively to the Bromley Cross-based Mimesis Theatre Company to form the basis of a community theatre project.

The plays -- seven short farces -- will be performed at the Victoria Hall tomorrow and Saturday to celebrating the town's 750th anniversary charter.

Mimesis is working on the community production with The Bolton Association and Network of Drop-ins (BAND).

Actors include volunteers and adult students from Bolton Community College.

Mike Coyne, from Mimesis, said: "It is quite exciting. These plays are the newest old stuff around.

"The plays are fun, very easily accessible and lively."

Bolton comic Martin Davies, alias The Mighty Swob, has been recruited as narrator.

Tickets cost £7 (£4.50 concessions). They are available from the Albert Halls Ticket Office on 01204 334400, Radcliffe Civic Centre and Mimesis on 01204 406644.
