THE Rags and Old Iron exhibition at Bolton Museum, runs until Thursday, April 20

Three local artists take the collections of the museum as the raw material for contemporary creations, which bridge the gap between past and present.

Through painting and drawing Margaret Jackson explores the decline of the engineering industry in Bolton.

Matthew Roby creates "junk" sculptures using old machinery, which is discarded and unwanted, and creates strange creatures which exhibit almost human characteristics.

Adela Jones has chosen the doll collection to invent a series of chance encounters and imaginary social gatherings.

The resulting ensembles will also be the inspiration for contemporary costume creations and performance pieces.

A Children's Workshop for nine to 12 year olds producing theatrical postcards with Rags and Old Iron artist Adela Jones takes place on Saturday, April 12 from 2pm-4pm. Admission is free but you must book in advance on 332211.

Meanwhile Our Treasures (www.ourtreasures.org) is an

opportunity to see examples of the many objects, that have been photographed, as part of Bolton and Bury Treasures in Trust.

This new and interactive website is funded by the New Opportunities Fund and enables people to explore the collections for inspiration, learning and enjoyment. From Mummies to Fish, the collections are now online for all.
