EAGLEY reached the final of the West Lancashire League's coveted Richardson Cup after a pulsating 2-0 extra-time victory over Burnley United.
Only some stout defending and numerous saves from Eagley keeper Mark Warren kept Burnley at bay but Eagley maintained their resolve and, as the second half wore on, they looked the stronger of the two sides.
With the score 0-0 at full time, it seemed something special was needed to break the deadlock and it came on 100 minutes when a Chris Carr pass split the Burnley defence to find Neil Matthews, who fired the ball from 25 yards into the top corner.
Sean Hill then put the result beyond doubt, giving Burnley's keeper no chance from 12 yards.
In the league, Blackrod Town had no first team fixture but their reserves beat Milnthorpe Corinthians 2-0, thanks to a brace from Craig Walkden.
