I HAVE read quite a few letters on this page berating Bolton Council. But I would like to give a very big pat on the back to the Parks Department.

Over quite a few months the Bowling Greens on Heywood Park have been taken over by the youths of Great Lever playing football on them, even though they have a purpose-built, enclosed pitch on the opposite side of the park. My husband and I used to despair when we saw these boys spoiling the greens, even the bowlers seemed to give up on them. But, to our great delight, they have now been enclosed inside secure railings and groundsmen are restoring them to their original glory. Well done.
