WHO do the council tenants of Hall i'th' Wood estate think should pay for the running and maintenance of their CCTV cameras?
Everyone else but themselves! They have already had them provided at other taxpayers' expense.
Peter Johnston has a nerve to suggest that they should be funded by the community as a whole through the Council Tax. I doubt whether owner occupiers in the terraced houses in the area where he lives and on private estates would be allowed the privilege of having CCTV cameras installed at the council taxpayers' expense, to protect them and their properties from crime. Many of them, including pensioners, will be no better off than some of the residents of Hall i'th' Wood.
The Comment column says that Bolton Council did not get its sums right in the first place. This is irrelevant. Even if the sums had been right, it is still other taxpayers who would have to foot the bill.
If the tenants of Hall i'th' Wood want protection in addition to what we all receive from the police at present, albeit that that is inadequate under the Labour Government, they must pay for it themselves like everyone else has to do.
The recent excessive Council Tax rise is already unacceptable, considering the continuing decline in public services under this Labour council without having further burdens placed upon it.
