THIS unusual view of the cottages at Longsight, Harwood, was taken in 1958 from the stage of the Methodist School, which was being rebuilt.
The school had closed earlier that year following a snap inspection by the County Architect after headmaster Mr J. Alston had reported its condition.
The 93 children were sent home immediately, and later alternative arrangements were made for them to go to the Eagley Primary School.
It was decided to rebuild the school, taking the opportunity to provide accommodation of a substantial large number of children which would be needed in the future because of the rapidly increasing population of the area.
