A BOLTON man today denied trying to blackmail a major American-based financial institution into handing over £6.5 million.
During a five minute hearing at London's Southwark Crown Court, Kulwant Singh, spoke only to confirm his name and enter not guilty pleas to five counts of making "unwarranted demands with menaces" from two of the company's US employees between November 13 and December 6 last year.
The first four involve a figure of 10 million dollars (£6.4 million), while the other refers to one million dollars (£645,327).
Judge Peter Fingret told bespectacled 30-year-old Singh, of Parkwood Drive, Bolton, that his trial, due to last three weeks, would begin on September 22 this year.
He would remain in custody in the meantime.
