THERE should be more chairmen as outspoken as Crystal Palace's Simon Jordan.
He might be a nightmare to work for and hardly be the best thing for his club. But what entertainment!
His rant on national radio last week was classic bite-your-nose-off-to-spite-your-face stuff.
He is Peter Ridsdale without the calm exterior. A fan in the chairman's chair who desperately wants to see his club succeed but whose overwhelming desire is largely responsible for why his club continually fails.
In explaining how he intends to take Palace back to the Premiership he showed how much more difficult he is inadvertently making it for his manager Trevor Francis.
Continually insisting how he doesn't want to put pressure on the players and manager he repeatedly piled pressure on them.
Too many players are not good enough, not performing well enough and should be driven out of the club, he said.
And he wants to know what Francis is going to do about it.
"Every business needs a plan and football is no different," he said.
"I want to see where we want to go and how we are going to get there and I don't want to see it on the back of a fag packet."
The bad news for Francis - and the good news for neutrals who like a good laugh - is that he intends to stick around for a good time yet.
"I used to like football but not anymore. The players are unrepresentative, the managers don't know what you're on about half the time and the fans don't like you.
"But I came into this job to take Palace back into the Premiership and I'm not going until I've done it."
So he intends staying for a long time then ..!
