GREEN-FINGERED pupils at Heskin Pemberton's CE Primary School have gone back to nature with the creation of a sensory garden.
The green-fingered project began on Friday with the construction of the garden and a wild flower meadow.
Headteacher Susanne Whitehead said the garden would prove invaluable and added "We are hoping that it will become a feature of the community, groups such as the nursery can also use it."
The creation of the garden also involved parents and staff who volunteered to do the hard work while pupils helped with planting.
The sensory garden means that things will be planted to appeal to all the senses. There will be colourful flowers, such as poppies to look at and smell, prickly plants and vegetables to eat. There will also be flowers to attract the wildlife.
Although the PTA raised a lot of the money, some of the funding came through Lancashire County Council's Green Partnerships Award which donated £450.
Andrew Suter, of The Green Centre, Eccleston, who co-ordinated the project said: "The cost, if you add the cost of the labour we are getting voluntarily would probably run to around £1,100."
