CROWN green bowlers in Clayton-le-Woods may not have to travel so far to get to the nearest bowling green if plans for a new facility get the go-ahead.
The parish council is looking into the possibility of laying a green on land at Manor Road County Primary School.
Parish council clerk Eileen Whiteford confirmed it had contacted Chorley Borough Council to inquire about the availability of the land, which is owned by Lancashire County Counciland is part of the school car park.
The parish council's play and leisure group has been responsible for several leisure projects and has resources available.
Mrs Whiteford said: "We have done a lot for children in the area and it was thought that we should try and help the older end of the community.
"At the moment it is just an idea and no firm plans are in place, but we have contacted the council about the availability of the land and are currently waiting for them to get back to us.
"We've also spoken about maybe looking at the possibility of incorporating a tennis court alongside the green."
A county council spokesman said: "The parish council did raise this issue with us in 2001 and we spoke to the school governors for their opinions.
"However, it was felt that there were too many unanswered questions over responsibility for the facilities. We advised the parish council to discuss the matter further but have not heard from them since.
"But the county council is happy to look at any fresh proposals the parish council may have considered."
