A YOUNG rugby league player, Chris Baines, has been selected to represent Great Britain amateurs.
Chris, 18, of Netherly Road, Coppull, was chosen to be a part of the BARLA (British Amateur Rugby League Association) squad for a tour of New Zealand and France.
The tour kicks off in France on June 1 and moves on to New Zealand in July.
Chris, who currently plays for Wigan St Patrick's, said: "It's going to be a brilliant experience. I have played against Australia and France, but am looking forward to going to New Zealand and playing well."
Chris has an extra incentive while down under, as when he gets back he hopes to sign professional terms with Warrington Wolves. He said: "I was offered terms before I left, but if I had signed, it would have meant that I could not go on this amateur tour.
"They have said they will be looking to sign me when I get back. It's what I've have always wanted to do, so I am hoping to play well, then come home and sign for the Wolves." One man who believes Chris will not only be a success is Wigan St Patricks coach Carl Briscoe.
He said: "Chris is a very hard working player, who is motivated and is always looking to improve his game.
"He is very dedicated to rugby league and has a tremendous work rate."
