I HAVE been giving some thought as to how the annoying buzzing sound of model aircraft can be, to other listeners, a mere gentle drone?
My guess is that perhaps they live two kilomatres away from the flight path, while others might live say 200 metres away. So they would perceive, at most, only one per cent of the noise level which the nearer sufferers would.
It appears that your correspondents have a conception that youngsters must either fly model aircraft or wander the streets sniffing glue.
Some other ways for these children to spend their Sundays might include, for instance, going to church, helping pensioners, supporting the local animal rescue . . . I could go on. Petty street crimes is certainly not the only alternative to flying model aircraft.
In any case, these discussions are now somewhat academic since the council has granted a renewal of the flying licence, evidently without considering objections.
This seems strange, particularly since it would have been so very easy to have arrived at an acceptable compromise.
