A YEAR 11 pupil has become the first person at her school to be awarded a Millennium Volunteers award.
Caring Rakhee Chavda is the first person at the Deane School to receive the award, which recognises the 200 hours of voluntary work she has done.
When she completed 100 hours of voluntary work, she picked up a Millennium Volunteers certificate.
Rakhee has given up much of her time to work with a wide variety of charities and groups in and out of school.
She is a member of the Young People's Steering Group for the Parallel Health Centre and is also involved with a steering group for the Bully Free Zone. As a peer listener, Rakhee helps younger pupils with their problems.
Outside of school, she has helped to organise sponsored walks for a baby care unit and Derian House Children's Hospice.
Rakhee is part of a group awarded the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award for its charity work. Along with others, Rakhee has received the school's Greater Manchester Police Award for contribution to the school and community. The school has nominated her for the Young Citizen of the Year Award.
