JUSSI Jaaskelainen cranked up the pressure on West Ham when he insisted: "I wouldn't swap places - definitely not!"
Saturday's survival showdown with Glenn Roeder's Hammers could be the game that secures a third successive top flight term for Wanderers and the mood in the Reebok dressing room could not be more upbeat, despite Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Chelsea.
As the countdown began to the match Sam Allardyce has billed as "the biggest of the season", Jaaskelainen spelled out the significance of the the Reebok duel and the value of their three-point advantage.
"This is our Champions League semi-final," the in-form keeper said in anticipation. "And I think they are going to feel more pressure than us.
"In fact all the pressure will be on them. We can be confident because we know we are doing very well at home at the moment."
Jaaskelainen was desperately close to maintaining Wanderers' four-point lead over the Hammers at the weekend. While Roeder's men could manage only a 2-2 home draw with Aston Villa, the giant Finn was pulling off save after save to frustrate Chelsea's Champions League ambitions - only to be beaten when Carlton Cole managed to find the net at the fourth attempt.
Nevertheless, a three-point lead with superior goal difference means that, barring a heavy defeat, Wanderers will still be ahead of the Hammers on Saturday night with only four games remaining. And that, Wanderers believe, gives them the psychological edge over their nearest relegation rivals.
Fulham's 2-0 defeat at Liverpool keeps them within striking distance while Birmingham, whose 2-0 win condemned Sunderland to the drop 2-0, and Leeds, held to a 2-2 draw by Spurs, are locked on 38 points alongside Villa.
But it was the West Ham result that lifted Wanderers' spirits as they sat in the Stamford Bridge dressing room.
"Obviously we discussed our game first but we were pleased when we heard the West Ham result," Jaaskelainen confirmed. "It really shouldn't matter what anybody else does but the fact that they drew means they dropped two points.
"We were disappointed not to get anything but that was a very good result for us."
