PETER Kay failed to pick up a BAFTA award at last night's star-studded ceremony -- but he still managed to raise one of the biggest laughs of the evening when he presented the Best Soap award.
Before handing the trophy to the cast from the programme, which Peter named "Sir Coronation Street", he said he had better speed up because his grandmother wanted to watch Heartbeat on the other channel.
"She'll be flicking," he joked.
Earlier The Office and Ricky Gervais beat Peter and his series Phoenix Nights to win Best Comedy Performance and the Best Situation Comedy categories.
Another Bolton star, Lord of the Rings actor Sir Ian McKellen -- currently appearing in the hit West End play Dance of Death -- presented the Best Actress Award to Julie Walters for her role in the drama Murder.
