DETECTIVES who have failed to identify a man eight months after his bones were found said: "Someone, somewhere, must know and miss him."
The man was found partially submerged in a pond off Back Lane, Charnock Richard, Chorley, around 6pm on Friday, July 26, 2002.
He had traumatic head injuries, probably the result of a deliberate assault.
Detectives produced a model of the man's head and used scientific tests to prove that he came from the West Midlands.
But they admit they are still no closer to knowing who he was or who killed him.
Det Supt Mick Turner said: "This has been a long and difficult inquiry and although we have gathered an enormous amount of information, we are still unable to give this man a name.
"Someone, somewhere, must know and miss him. We would very much like to be able to solve this mystery and allow his family to have a funeral and lay him to rest."
Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
