CORONATION street stars Alan Halsall (Tyrone) and Andy Whyment (Kirk) enter the deadly world of banger racing when the season kicks off at Manchester's Belle Vue stadium on Easter Monday at 6pm.
And amazingly, out of of 80 entries for this orgy of destruction, nearly half are veteran racers from the Bolton racetrack intent on demolishing the opposition in the formidable world of banger racing!
Leigh brothers Gary and Lee Shovelton and Wilf Speak head a strong local contingent of drivers.
The wacky, dodgy duo are captaining teams in a Merseyside versus Midlands 30 car team race, Andy captains the Midlands Demons team and Alan the Merseyside
Invaders outfit. Andy has a tactical advantage having already raced a three-wheeler Robin Reliant at the track while Alan has to learn to the tactics of this madcap sport where all out track war, destruction and survival are the key attributes!
Both stars feel so confident that they have a £100 wager that their team will win!
Andy said: "This will be a walkover, the tactics are planned and my 15 men are well briefed, there won't be an invader car running after a few laps!"
Alan said: " I've met my men, these are the hardest geysers you've met, and they've got fabulous wrecking form, I reckon I'll be lifting a £100 from Andy, and I'm looking forward to it, come in handy to pay Baldwin off!"
Thirty cars will be locked onto the track where total carnage will result and honour is at stake. Fewer than a handful of cars will finish, the rest totally wrecked!
The team race is part of a wild entertainment night out at the Manchester Stadium which features up to 100 bangers all intent on destruction, the evening ending with a wild 50 plus car demolition derby and a caravan race!
Alan and Andy will be staying throughout the evening to sign autographs and more importantly offer advice and encouragement to their demonic masters of demolition.
Kids will be enthralled by one of the entrants, northerner Big Dave has entered a 1600cc Volkswagon Beetle which has been painted to replicate Herbie from the Disney cult film. Big Dave said: "This will be Herbie riding to destruction! With up to 50 cars on the track I don't expect my little Herbie to last more than a few laps but it will entertain the kids!"
